Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) has lowered its internal global production plans by around 200,000 units to 7.8 million vehicles for 2011 amid a sluggish recovery in U.S. sales, the Asahi daily reported on Sunday.
The Asahi Shimbun, without citing its sources, said the new production plan was revised down from August and would mean Toyota's global production would fall short of 8 million units for the third straight year. The figure excludes units Daihatsu Motor Co (7262.T) and Hino Motors Ltd (7205.T).
Toyota, the world's biggest automaker, does not publish production plans for the calendar year. In the first 10 months of this year, Toyota's global output was 6.37 million units, matching the result for all of 2009.
Toyota and other Japanese automakers face a sharp slide in domestic car sales after government subsidies for fuel-efficient vehicles ran out in September.
Toyota's sales have also been slow in the United States, where it was the only major brand to report a drop last month.
