The Mexican unit of Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday it has serviced more than 5,000 vehicles since recalling seven models on Feb. 8 because of possible problems with their accelerator pedals.
Nationwide, the company's dealers are servicing about 600 cars per day, Toyota Motor Sales de Mexico said in a press release. They have the capacity to check 1,000 per day.
"Currently, the mechanics at dealers have the training and necessary parts to perform the service in about half an hour," the company said. "The customers involved have been contacted by mail."
The recall, part of a broader action by Toyota in China, the U.S. and Europe, applies in Mexico to the RAV4, Matrix, Camry, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia and Corolla.
"The company expects to finish servicing all the vehicles in about 45 days more," Toyota said, referring to its local unit. Toyota estimated that the recall affects 30,000 cars in Mexico.
Toyota Motor Sales de Mexico has 63 dealerships and offers 16 models here. The company sold 51,991 units last year.
