Toyota to recall 43,023 imported vehicles in China

Shanghai, December 25 (Gasgoo.com) Toyota Motor's Chinese unit said yesterday that it will start from December 30 to recall 43,023 imported vehicles due to possible engine oil leakage, the Nikkei reported.

The recall affects four models, which are the Lexus ES 350, the Lexus RX 350, the Highlander sports utility vehicle (SUV) and the Previa minivan, but does not apply to vehicles manufactured in China and exported to Japan.

The reason for the recall is that sulfur in the fuel is damaging the VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) engine's oil hose, raising the risk of engine oil leakage, Toyota Motor China Investment Co said in a statement.

The recall will start on December 30, 2009 and finish on June 30, 2010. Toyota China will ask related users by letter to drive their cars to the nearest Toyota stores for free replacement of the engine's oil hose.

Only four months ago, Toyota was recalling 690,000 cars made in China because of faulty electrical window switches. The largest ever recall affects the company's Camry, Corolla, Vios and Yaris models made by Guangzhou Toyota and Tianjin FAW Toyota.
