San Antonia Business Journal - Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling more than 200,000 FJ Cruiser sport-utility vehicles because of a possible flaw in the way the seat belts were installed, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The recall affects models from the 2007 through 2013 years. The company says that the retractors for the vehicles’ front driver and passenger seat belts are mounted in rear door panels where cracks can form if they are closed forcefully over a long period of time. If this happens, the seat belt retractor could detach and increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Toyota told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is developing a remedy for the problem and will begin the recall as soon as it decides on the necessary repairs.
San Antonio is home to the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc. plant, where the Tacoma and Tundra trucks are assembled.
