In spite of weak global auto markets, Volkswagen has posted a 1.5% rise in sales in May 2009. The total sales volume for the month reached 556,700.
The rise is mainly because of the company's core VW passenger car brand that gained in Germany and China, its two biggest markets.
The company sold a total of 2.49 million vehicles during the first five months of 2009, and the VW brand accounted for 1.57 million vehicles, the wall street journal reported.
Sales for the VW brand increased 54% on the year in May to 71,400 passenger cars in Germany, while sales reached 98,900 vehicles, up 47% on the year in China. State-backed scrapping incentives in Germany have escalated the market for low-priced models.
