While the automaker did not announce an official Chinese name for the series, Xiaomi EV Technology Co., Ltd. has already registered related Chinese-language social media accounts under the name "Xiaomi Pengcheng" (小米澎程), including WeChat official account, WeChat video channel and Bilibili. According to Xiaomi EV, SkyNomad represents "the sky, the nomad—a new name for space and lifestyle," suggesting the brand will emphasize outdoor mobility and lifestyle-oriented experiences.

The announcement follows months of industry speculation that Xiaomi EV was preparing a dedicated range of extended-range SUVs. Earlier reports had suggested the Chinese name would be Xuntian (寻天), although the company has never confirmed that branding. Public trademark records indicate Xiaomi filed an application for the Xuntian trademark in the transportation category in April 2023, followed by an application for the SKYNOMAD trademark in November 2024 covering automotive-related classes, hinting that preparations for the new brand have been underway for some time.

Market reports have linked the new series to Xiaomi's first extended-range SUV, internally codenamed Kunlun N3. The vehicle is widely expected to debut in the second half of 2026, replacing the previously rumored YU9 designation. Unconfirmed reports have also suggested the model could be marketed under the standalone SkyNomad identity rather than carrying Xiaomi's primary vehicle branding, although the company has yet to verify those claims.

Industry sources have also outlined a broader roadmap for the platform, with additional extended-range SUVs reportedly planned under the Kunlun 10, Kunlun 20 and Kunlun 30 codenames to expand the lineup. Separate reports have suggested Xiaomi is evaluating a premium pop-top recreational vehicle project, codenamed Mandao (曼岛), aimed at the growing outdoor lifestyle and overlanding market. None of these future product plans has been officially confirmed.

For now, Xiaomi EV has not disclosed specifications, pricing, launch timing or production plans for any SkyNomad models. Further details are expected as the company gradually unveils its next-generation product strategy.
