Gasgoo Munich- XPENG Vice President Gu Jie revealed on October 28 at the China Society of Automotive Engineers (SAECCE) conference that the company has completed small-scale production of a solid-state battery designed specifically for its IRON humanoid robot. The robot itself is now in the final stages before formal mass production (SOP).
According to Gu, the battery features high energy density and extreme safety. It weighs about 30% less and offers roughly 30% more capacity than conventional liquid lithium batteries. Its design prevents thermal runaway, allowing it to withstand rigorous tests including impact and nail penetration.

This marks XPENG's first public release of a solid-state battery dedicated to robotics. As the group's second-largest business unit after new energy vehicles, the robotics division has accelerated its production timeline recently. On September 22, XPENG held its first supply chain partner conference, attended by leading companies in core components such as actuators, dexterous hands, sensors, and AI chips. The company has completed supplier audits and finalized selections for key parts.
Under XPENG's previously announced roadmap, the IRON humanoid robot will enter mass production by the end of 2026. Sales and deliveries are set to begin in 2027, with the robots deployed in global stores and commercial settings to handle services like guidance and product demonstrations.
Notably, XPENG had already built up its solid-state battery capabilities for its automotive business. In February 2026, the company announced the completion of all-weather road testing, achieving a pack volume utilization rate of 78%—23 percentage points higher than traditional liquid battery packs—while reducing weight by 35%. Chairman He Xiaopeng also stated in September that XPENG has invested in three battery cell manufacturers and will bring battery production in-house starting in 2026.
