Gasgoo Munich- On April 15, XPENG unveiled its first full-size flagship SUV, the XPENG GX, and opened pre-orders at a price setting at 399,800 yuan. The model will be offered in both a battery electric electric (BEV) version and a "super range-extended" (REEV) variant.

The BEV version delivers up to 750 km of range with all-wheel drive, while the REEV model offers 430 km of battery-powered driving and a combined range of up to 1,585 km.

XPENG said the "GX" name reflects a blend of "Great" and "Explore," underscoring the company's broader vision for next-generation mobility.

In terms of passive safety, the XPENG GX adopts large-scale front and rear integrated die-casting technology rated at 16,000 tonnes, forming a structural foundation designed to withstand impacts from multiple directions, including frontal, side, rear, roof compression, and underbody intrusion.

The vehicle is equipped with 11 airbags, including a driver front airbag, a 41-liter triple-chamber far-side airbag for the front row, a 125-liter passenger airbag, two full-length side curtain airbags, four side airbags for the first and second rows, and two seat cushion airbags for zero-gravity seats. The system is designed to protect all three rows, with curtain airbags capable of maintaining pressure for up to six seconds after deployment to mitigate secondary collision injuries.

On the active safety front, XPENG integrates an AI-driven chassis system combining its X-VMC motion control platform with a driver incapacitation assistance system. The X-VMC system is engineered to maintain stability across challenging scenarios such as icy surfaces, snow-covered roads, tire blowouts in corners, and dynamic driving conditions, aiming to balance safety, ride comfort, and handling performance.

The driver incapacitation system is designed for highway driving scenarios, where it can detect loss of driver control and initiate a sequence of emergency responses. These include hazard light activation, controlled braking, lane changes, locating a safe stopping area, bringing the vehicle to a halt, triggering SOS signals, contacting emergency services, and unlocking doors. The system is capable of navigating complex road conditions, including solid lane markings and the absence of emergency lanes, to secure a safe stop.

The XPENG GX features a native by-wire chassis designed for the "physical AI" era, integrating the X-VMC (Integrated Motion Control) system, hydraulic brake-by-wire, front-wheel steer-by-wire, dual-chamber hydraulic braking, an intelligent all-wheel-drive system, and rear-wheel steer-by-wire. This setup is intended to redefine handling characteristics in large SUVs, addressing traditional perceptions of sluggishness and bulk.

Steer-by-wire front steering enables more precise control across all speeds, delivering smoother low-speed maneuvering and stable high-speed performance. The system also isolates road feedback more effectively, reducing vibration over rough surfaces, while eliminating mechanical steering linkages helps cut steering noise by 8% compared with traditional systems.

A low-speed precision parking mode will allow steering adjustments within ±10 degrees during automated parking, improving smoothness and reducing noise. The GX also achieves a braking distance of 34.4 meters from 100 km/h, positioning it among the top performers in the full-size six-seat SUV segment and offering additional safety margin in emergency stops.

XPENG positions the GX as China's first mass-produced, fully self-developed Robotaxi-ready vehicle, designed to bring advanced autonomous driving capabilities to consumer markets. Built on an architecture targeting Level 4 autonomy, the model is intended to represent a step change in intelligent driving capability.

The vehicle is equipped with computing power of up to 3,000 TOPS, providing the processing capacity needed for AI algorithms, multi-sensor fusion, and real-time decision-making in complex driving environments.

XPENG's second-generation VLA system enables the GX model to feature advanced "campus roaming" capabilities, allowing the vehicle to navigate complex environments such as heavy rain, fog, or low-light conditions while avoiding obstacles. The system continues to evolve, integrating intelligent driving, voice control, and interactive lighting features. It also supports autonomous parking in highway service areas without driver intervention.

Inside the cabin, a locally deployed VLM (vision-language model) supports conversational voice interaction, including fuzzy destination search, complex route planning, and more natural dialogue, enhancing user experience through more human-like responses.

The GX also introduces AI-powered digital projection headlights capable of communicating with other road users through visual signals. These include lane-change indications, pedestrian-yield alerts, and other driving intent cues, aimed at improving safety and interaction in mixed traffic environments.

With dimensions of 5,265 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, along with a 3,115 mm wheelbase, the GX delivers a full-size interior layout. XPENG claims first- and second-row space rivals luxury D-segment sedans, while the third row offers comfort comparable to high-end MPVs.

Notably, the third-row seats support full 0–180° electric recline, allowing them to lie completely flat—an uncommon feature in this segment. The cabin also includes two zero-gravity seats and an additional aviation-style comfort seat, emphasizing long-distance comfort and flexible seating configurations.
