Gasgoo Munich- On May 23, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission released a notice stating that Xu Liuping—Party Secretary, Vice Chairman, and First Secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions—is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. He is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the commission.

Xu Liuping is recognized as a veteran in the auto industry and a highly controversial reformer. Public records show his career began within the weapons equipment system before he left a deep imprint on the history of China’s two major state-owned automakers.
Xu’s career highlights began at Changan Automobile, where he served as chairman. During his tenure, he spearheaded the development of Changan’s independent R&D system and oversaw joint ventures. In 2017, Xu moved north to take the helm of China FAW Group as chairman and party secretary—a move viewed at the time as a significant "cross-industry" appointment. At FAW, Xu imposed a strong personal style, initiating a turbulent period known as the "Xu Liuping Reform." Under his direction, the company overhauled its organizational structure and devoted immense energy to reviving the Hongqi brand.
Xu stepped away from the corporate front lines in 2023 after being elected vice chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, a move the industry widely interpreted as recognition of his achievements in reforming state-owned enterprises. Yet, rumors of trouble had begun circulating even after he left the automotive sector. The latest notice cites "serious violations of discipline and law." He is not the first FAW leader to face scrutiny; former chairman Xu Jianyi also fell from grace before him.
