China's passenger vehicle market showed a mixed picture in June 2026. Production and wholesale sales both declined year on year, despite a modest month-on-month recovery supported by automakers' mid-year sales push and seasonal promotions. With domestic demand remaining subdued, exports emerged as the industry's most important growth engine, reaching a record 900,000 units—up 78.8% from a year earlier.
Electrification also continued to reshape the market. NEV sales rose 20.7% year on year, the fastest growth recorded in the first half of 2026, lifting their market share to 62.9%. Meanwhile, Chinese brands expanded their wholesale share to 75.2%, while SUVs significantly outperformed sedans and luxury NEVs continued to grow despite an overall decline in the luxury segment.
Which automakers, vehicle segments and powertrain categories drove these shifts? Explore the full presentation for a closer look at China's passenger vehicle market performance in June and the first half of 2026.
