ZF Begins Production of 8-Speed Hybrid Transmission in Shanghai

ZF's eight-speed hybrid transmission officially entered series production at ZF Transmissions Shanghai Co., Ltd. on August 12. The localization project took 18 months from approval to product rollout and 13 months from its formal launch to production. Locally sourced materials account for 79% of total material content, rising to 95% among controllable materials.

Targeting the high-performance hybrid market, the transmission supports maximum input torque of 800 Nm and integrates a 160-kW electric motor with peak torque of 450 Nm. Its compact, modular design supports plug-in hybrid vehicles with longitudinal powertrain layouts, including passenger cars, MPVs, pickups, and off-road SUVs. ZF said it has secured nominations from multiple customers.

XPENG G9L Opens for Pre-Sales at 259,800 Yuan

XPENG opened pre-sales for the G9L on August 11 at 259,800 yuan. Built on the new G platform, the five-seat SUV is available in battery-electric and extended-range versions. It measures 5,120 × 1,999 × 1,782 mm and has a 3,100-mm wheelbase.

All variants feature an intelligent flagship chassis and rear-wheel steer-by-wire, providing a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters. The extended-range model offers up to 1,602 km of combined range, while the battery-electric version provides up to 755 km and supports 5C ultra-fast charging. The G9L also features XPENG's second-generation VLA model and Turing AI chips.

WeRide Reports Second-Quarter Revenue of 230 Million Yuan

WeRide reported revenue of 230 million yuan for the second quarter of 2026, up 82% year over year and 103% quarter over quarter. Its gross margin reached 37.5%, an increase of 9.4 percentage points year over year. First-half revenue rose 73% to 350 million yuan, while second-quarter overseas revenue surged 164% year over year.

As of July 31, WeRide operated approximately 3,400 Level 4 vehicles worldwide, including more than 1,800 Robotaxis. Its autonomous-driving operations cover 13 countries and over 60 cities, with further Robotaxi expansion planned in Europe and existing fully driverless operations in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The company's L2++/L3 revenue increased 2,594% year over year in the second quarter. Shipments of its WRD 3.0 end-to-end solution reached approximately 30,000 units, and the system has secured series-production nominations for more than 30 vehicle models.
