NEVS approved by MIIT, NDRC to produce all-electric vehicles

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- National New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd. (the NEV Company),a subsidiary of National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB(NEVS), was granted the certificate to produce all-electric vehicles by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on November 5, according to local media.

In June 2015, the NEV Company was founded in Tianjin Binhai High-tech Industrial Area with registered capital of RMB2.4 billion and total project investment of RMB4.2 billion. In January 2017, the NDRC approved the NEV Company's application to start production of electric vehicles in its manufacturing plant in Tianjin, according to the introduction on the official website.

Before the company got the governmental approval, it has reportedly got orders up to 270,000 EVs from such companies as Didi Chuxing, Panda New Energy and China Volant Industry, etc.

The NEVS's two concept EV models, the 9-3 sedan and the 9-3X wagon, were unveiled at the 2017 CES Asia trade show. On December 5, 2017, as the NEVS 9-3 electric rolled off the production line, NEVS Tianjin project kicked off production, marking a new stage moving from development into industrialization. The automaker announced then that the 9-3 volume EVs would come off the production line in June, 2018. However, the plan is said to be postponed to the end of the year. Besides, the NEVS's plant is likely to be completed before 2018 ends.

The NEVS's subsidiary is now the tenth automaker in China that is approved by both the MIIT and the NDRC to manufacture BEVs. The other nine EV markers are BAIC BJEV, YUDO AUTO, JMEV, ZHIDOU, Changjiang EV, Qiantu Motor, Hozon Auto, Chery New Energy and Jinkang New Energy.
