Great Wall Motor, Huawei extend tie-up to ICV, electrification, mobility service
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Sept. 24, Chinese biggest SUV and pickup maker Great Wall Motor (GWM) and Huawei, a world's leading ICT device supplier, agreed to cooperate on ICT-related innovative technologies, as both parties wish to seize a head start in electrification and intelligence areas in China's auto industry.
Under the partnership, GWM and Huawei will carry out collaboration in such areas as auto connectivity, intelligent driving, smart cockpit, intelligent electrification, cloud service, big data and mobility service, according to a post on the automaker's WeChat account.
The cooperation between two parties can trace back to March, 2019, where the 5G-based remote driving technology jointly developed by Great Wall Motor, Huawei and China Mobile was successfully tested at Xushui, Hebei Province. In that test, the latency between a vehicle and devices was reduced to several milliseconds, said the automaker.
Besides, in July, Great Wall Motor formed its smart ecosystem in cooperation with eight technology and communications companies, including Huawei as well.
At the same time, the automobile and the smart phone manufacturers would make joint efforts to develop auto intelligence, cloud service and big data.
Chinese auto firms are taking the fast lane to a green and intelligent tomorrow. As a major indigenous automaker, Great Wall Motor is definitely no exception. To keep up with the tendency of electrification and intelligence, it has weaved a global R&D network with the Baoding headquarters as the core, entering countries like Japan, the U.S., Germany, India, Austria and South Korea.
Great Wall Motor said it has been on the front line of automobile intelligence growth and taking the lead in developing key technologies such as 5G, autonomous driving, IoV and V2X. It began the research on self-driving technology as early as 2009, and demonstrated the Level 3 technical fruit for the first time in 2015. In early 2017, the SUV maker formally launched its autonomous driving system “i-Pilot” that drew joint efforts from R&D bases in China, the U.S. and India (Photo source: Great Wall Motor's WeChat account).
