Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Trunk.tech, a Chinese autonomous driving technology and service provider, announced on May 19 the formal launch of the new-generation AI-powered electric transportation solution in collaboration with the power battery giant CATL.

Based on the new technical solution, both parties will deepen cooperation and draw on each other's strengths in jointly exploiting the market of intelligent driving electric-powered transportation products for port logistics business.

Designed to be a turn-key solution for smart green port logistics hub, the newly-launched solution adopts Trunk.tech's autonomous driving solution that encompasses the self-driving truck applicable to port logistics transportation, the ART AI-enabled transport robot, and the Trunk Cloud, the company's in-house developed port self-driving cloud service platform. Besides, it also uses CATL's leading new energy solution, including the car-battery separation technology, the battery swapping technology, as well as the power battery rental business.

Zhang Tianlei, CEO of Trunk.tech said a real future-oriented port logistics transportation tool must be an intelligent facility, and only by using intelligent technologies can the problems like shortage of workforce, high cost, low efficiency, and complex management be mitigated or even solved. He added that an electrified platform will be the best carrier of intelligent products and technologies. On the one hand, self-driving technologies can be well integrated with electric engines; on the other hand, electrification is in tune with the development trend of green ports and will make a great contribution to peaking carbon dioxide emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.

By cooperating with Trunk.tech, CATL will build a “battery bank” featuring separating ownership of cars and batteries based on the battery modules with uniform specification and the battery swapping technologies with higher efficiency, so as to provide rentable, replaceable and upgradeable power batteries for the self-driving heavy-duty trucks running at ports, said Ma Jianqi, director of CATL's heavy-duty truck electrification business.
