According to XPeng, the Wuhan-based plant covers an area of 1,500 mu (1 million square meters) where workshops dedicated to stamping, welding, painting, assembly, battery, and electric drive system will be built. It will have an annual capacity of 100,000 new vehicles and is expected to generate a production value of over 30 billion yuan ($4.64 billion) per year.
He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of XPeng, said the company's third-generation intelligent car platform—also XPeng's first global platform—will be located at the Wuhan factory.
Prior to the Wuhan base, XPeng has operated two self-built plants in Guangdong province's Zhaoqing and Guangzhou.
The startup initially selected Haima Auto's Zhengzhou plant as the contract manufacturer of its first production model, the XPeng G3. Through the acquisition of another Guangdong-based car manufacturer Guangdong FODAY, XPeng obtained in March 2020 the governmental car production permit for its Zhaoqing plant, the birth place of the XPeng P7 sports sedan.
XPeng currently has two production models, namely, the G3 and the P7 for sales. As of July 31, 2021, year-to-date total deliveries of the company reached 38,778 units, representing a 388% increase year-over-year and surpassing the full-year volume of 2020.
