China has 2.015 million EV charging piles by July 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China has roughly 2.015 million electric vehicle (EV) charging piles by the end of July 2021, representing 50.2% compared to volume accumulated by the year-ago period, according to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA).

For the first seven months of 2021, there were 334,000 EV charging piles newly built across China, including 143,000 public piles (+240.4% YoY) and 191,000 private ones (+214.1% YoY).

The total number of public charging piles in China amounted to 950,000 by the end of July 2021, including 383,000 DC piles, 567,000 AC piles, and 426 DC-AC integrated charging piles, the EVCIPA said after compiling the data reported by members of the alliance. There were around 32,000 public charging piles newly deployed per month on average between August 2020 and July 2021.

As of July 2021, there had been about 664,000 charging stations in China. In terms of the volume of charging stations, the top five provinces or direct-administered municipalities were Guangdong (10,764), Jiangsu (5,798), Zhejiang (5,427), Beijing (5,421), and Shanghai (5,190).

By the end of July 2021, China had a total of 763 battery swapping stations, 221 and 116 of which are located in Beijing and Guangdong respectively, the only two provinces (or direct-administered municipalities) having more than 100 stations.

As of July 2021, there were 11 operators in China with over 10,000 charging piles. The top three companies were Star Charge (273,088), TELD (224,622), and State Gird (196,484).
