Li Auto breaks ground for Beijing plant, production starting 2023

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Li Auto announced the ground breaking for its green and smart plant building on the automaker’s recently acquired former Beijing Hyundai first plant.

Li Auto’s Beijing green and smart factory is located in Shunyi District. With over RMB6 billion to be invested in total, the automaker projected a production-ready date by the end of 2023, producing brand new battery-electric products in the future. The plant will utilize Beijing Hyundai’s existing workshops as much as possible, up to 60%. The new plant is expected to realize a production capacity of 100,000 vehicles annually, in phase one, Li Auto added.

Moreover, the automaker will also build an industrial innovation center, putting Li Auto’s most recent model and technology on public display. It planned on establishing super charging stations as well, providing clients with super charging services.

Li Auto said its Beijing green and smart plant would adopt the newest eco-friendly and the most effective manufacturing technique in China. Its welding workshop deployed over 600 robots, realizing flexible production for four models on one line, with a 100% connective automation rate.

The emission level of the new paint shop passed the high requirements of international and industrial standards, and the assembly shop provides 100% traceable critical torque quality. The plant is highly intelligent and automated, implemented with a smart logistics system, unmanned power consumption detections, and finished vehicles can put themselves to storage autonomously.    

In addition, Li Auto is developing two high-voltage battery-electric vehicle platforms, the Whale and the Shark. The automaker planned to put two new high-voltage battery-electric vehicles on the market each year, starting from 2023.
