BAIC BJEV to equip new ARCFOX-branded models with third-generation solid-state battery

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology Co.,Ltd. (BAIC BluePark), the parent of BAIC Group's NEV unit BAIC BJEV, plans to equip new models under the premium EV brand ARCFOX with its third-generation solid-state battery technology, the company revealed on Monday at a communication platform of Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The third-generation technology will generate a high-safety (no fire) solid-state battery with a high energy density of 360Wh/kg, according to BAIC BluePark. However, the new battery is still in the process of being planned and the company didn't reveal when it will be put into volume production.

The company also disclosed it has completed the development of its second-generation solid-state battery cell, the bench testing and validation of the battery system, as well as the validation of the battery installation in complete vehicle model, namely, the ARCFOX αT.

BAIC BJEV began the research of solid-state battery technology and the technique of installing such battery in complete vehicles as far back as 2017. In July 2020, the NEV manufacturer saw an all-electric drivable vehicle prototype powered by solid-state battery system roll off the production line, the first-of-its-kind in China.

In early 2020, BAIC BJEV launched the “2029 Plan”, under which the company aims to build a “three-pronged” energy drive system composed of lithium batteries, solid-state batteries, and fuel cell batteries.
