Beijing to push Xiaomi EV, Li Auto’s development in the city

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On January 6th, the municipal government of Beijing hosted its fifth session of the 15th People’s Congress, with the mayor Chen Jining reporting on the government’s behalf. China’s auto startups, Li Auto and Xiaomi EV, were mentioned in the city’s 2022 plans.

According to the municipal report, the city of Beijing plans to help Xiaomi EV and Li Auto firm up their projects and developments in the city.

Notably, Li Auto and Xiaomi both have major plans in Beijing. Specifically, Li Auto is building a smart manufacturing plant dedicated to battery-electric vehicles in Shunyi District, Beijing. The construction already started on October 16th, 2021.

The manufacturing plant will cost Li Auto over 6 billion RMB, with an estimated production date set at the end of 2023. The new intelligent plant will be reformed on top of the original workshop, with over 60% facilities utilized. The designed production capacity is 100,000 vehicles in Phase I.

Li Auto also plans on setting up an industrial innovation center and supercharging stations in Beijing, showcasing its latest models and technical achievements, providing supercharging services to the public.

Unlike Li Auto, Xiaomi has completely set its auto endeavor in Beijing. According to the company’s contract with Beijing’s E-Town, Xiaomi will construct its Xiaomi EV headquarters, sales base, R&D base, and manufacturing plant in E-Town. The production plant will be built in two phases, with a total designed capacity of 300,000 vehicles divided equally. The company projects to roll off its first vehicle in 2024.
