Toyota’s first China-made BEV bZ4X starts at 220,000 yuan in presale
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Toyota Motor on April 28 began pre-sale of the bZ4X, the first Toyota-branded all-electric model in China. Manufactured and sold by both GAC Honda and FAW-Toyota, the BEV model comes with five trim levels with pre-sale prices varying from 220,000 yuan ($33,093) to 300,000 yuan ($45,130).

Riding on Toyota's e-TNGA platform, the bZ4X is the first model of the bZ full-electric vehicle series. Positioned as a mid-sized SUV, it measures 4,690mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,650mm tall, roughly the size of the RAV4. The wheelbase of the bZ4X spans 2,850mm, 190mm longer than that of the RAV4.
The pure-electric model will offer six options of color skins. It will take on Volkswagen's ID.4 in China.
Toyota said it equips the bZ4X with a solar panel on the roof, which can produce enough electricity to make the SUV drive up to 1,750km per year.
The model will be armed with the third-generation Toyota Safety Sense system that offers Level 2 driver assistance functions. Other intelligent features include the Mobileye EyeQ4 autonomous driving chip, front-facing monocular camera, 12 ultrasonic and millimeter-wave radars.

The bZ4X will feature Toyota's steer-by-wire system, which allows a driver to make an easier U-turn with single hand.
Toyota will offer the China-made bZ4X in both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) variants. The former will feature a single 150kW electric motor capable of a 0-100km/h acceleration of 8.4 seconds. The latter will carry an 80kW electric motor at both the front and rear axles, and can zip from 0-100km/h within 7.7 seconds.

Per the CLTC standard, the carmaker claims the 71.4kWh ternary battery pack from Panasonic will allow the FWD version to travel up to 615km on a single charge, while the AWD one come with two range variants—500km and 560km—thanks to the 72.5 ternary battery offered by CATL.
The battery used in the bZ4X supports 150kW DC fast charging, allowing it to go from dead to 80% of its capacity within only 30 minutes.
