Xiaomi Auto said to set up second factory in Shanghai
Beijing (Gasgoo)- China’s smartphone giant Xiaomi may establish its second automobile manufacturing plant in Shanghai, judging from the company’s recent auto supply bidding activities.

According to documents released by China’s corporate database Qichacha, Xiaomi Auto Technology Co., Ltd. (Xiaomi Auto) has initiated multiple recruitment sessions in Shanghai, hiring eligible suppliers in a wide range of auto manufacturing fields, including welding assembly lines, pressure casting machine centers, battery charge and discharge equipment, press machines, PQ appraisal and assistant equipment, and autonomous driving road test simulation services.
Currently, Xiaomi Auto has established its headquarters as well as its first production plant in Beijing. Rumors regarding its next move have been flying. Shanghai is one of the most talked-about cities for its business endeavors, given its advantages in connection to the auto supply chain and transportation.
Earlier in October 2021, Xiaomi purchased a land lot use right from the municipal government of Shanghai for RMB1.55 billion ($231.97 million). The land measures 16,666 square meters in area and is categorized for commercial use only.
Xiaomi said that the land will be used as its headquarters in Shanghai, integrating all of its businesses together.
