Despite the plunge in overall sales, the SUV brand TANK still scored a 10.27% year-on-year increase with 6,065 vehicles sold last month.

Other brands were all hit by a two-digit dip in April sales. Of them, ORA faced the biggest decrease, with 3,088 cars sold. The NEV-dedicated brand will see its product lineup further expand with the presale of the ORA Ballet Cat beginning on May 20.

For the first four months of 2022, GWM saw its auto sales dwindle 21.67% from a year ago to 337,277 units. Both Haval and GWM Pickup recorded a year-on-year slide of nearly 30%. Nevertheless, the SUV brands, WEY and TANK still defied the overall downward trend to gain growth in their year-to-date sales.

The automaker also said its NEV sales in the Jan.-Apr. period added up to 39,273 units, 3,870 units of which were sold last month.

The sales downturn was closely linked to the sliding production volumes. In April 2022, GWM's vehicle outputs fell 38.47% over the previous year to 55,284 units, resulting in a Jan.-Apr. production volume of 341,190 units, which was 19.32% lower than that of the prior-year period.
