Great Wall Motor pauses new orders of ORA Black Cat, White Cat for higher-end models

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On May 11th, in a response to investors, China’s major automaker Great Wall Motor disclosed its decision to withhold new orders of the Black Cat and the White Cat models under the ORA brand.

The automaker further illustrated that on one hand, the company currently has oozing backlog orders on hand due to the industry-wide crimped raw material supply. At the same time, Great Wall Motor is gathering its resources to promote new and more premium ORA models in regards of market debut and mass production.

Hence, under consideration of the company’s profitability, Great Wall Motor is temporarily ceasing incoming orders for ORA’s two earlier and lower-priced electric models. After finishing delivering the current piled up orders, the company will then review the reinstatement of the Black Cat and White Cat orders in accordance with the market climate.

Notably, as Gasgoo previously reported, the Black Cat and the White Cat have been said to be vulnerable to discontinuation, as ORA is launching a slew of new and higher-end models, including the Ballet Cat, which will start presale on May 20th and is said to be priced around RMB200,000 ($29,746).

In comparison, both the Black Cat and the White Cat models are priced under RMB89,000 ($14,050).
