CATL faces MoM shrink in share by China’s Apr. power battery installed capacity

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In April 2022, China's power battery outputs reached 29GWh, soaring 124.1% year on year, while dropping 26.1% month on month, according to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).

Of the power batteries produced last month, 10.3GWh and 18.6GWh were ternary-lithium batteries and lithium phosphate batteries, up 53.5% and 200.7% from the year-ago period respectively.

For the first four months of 2022, there was a total of 129.6GWh power batteries produced in China, representing a 183.5% year-on-year hike. The year-to-date outputs of ternary-lithium batteries and lithium phosphate batteries reached 48.3GWh (+97.2% YoY) and 81GWh (+283.1 YoY) respectively.

Data by the CAPBIIA show that the country's power battery installed capacity came at 13.3GWh in April, leaping 58.1% from the previous year, while sliding 38% from the previous month.

The cumulative installed capacity in the Jan.-Apr. period shot up 104.1% year over year to 64.5GWh. Notably, the year-to-date capacity of lithium phosphate batteries zoomed up 207.5% over the year-ago period to 38.7GWh.

Regarding April power battery installed capacity, the top 4 players were the same as that of the previous month, accounting for 82.56% of the country's total capacity. CATL still ranked highest by share of 38.28%, 12.21 percentage points fewer than that of March. BYD was still the runner-up, but its market share was only 6.1 percentage points lower than that of CATL.

With regard to the Jan.-Apr. power battery installed capacity, the top 10 battery makers made up 94.72% of the country's total volume. Of them, CATL, BYD, and CALB still topped others by holding up to 78.03% market share in total.
