JIDU unveils concept car of first production robocar, ROBO-01

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On June 8th, Baidu and Geely’s intelligent auto arm, JIDU, unveiled the concept car of its first production robocar, the ROBO-01, in XiRang, Baidu’s metaverse.

Powered by Baidu’s intelligent driving technology, the concept car is 90 percent similar to the final production model, JIDU disclosed.

The robocar is capable of a unique “trainable” functionality and JIDU robocar neural network, JET (JIDU Evolving Technology). It supports high-level autonomous driving functions with full redundancy and an SOA-based smart cockpit.

It features futuristic designs such as a U-shaped folding steering wheel, a 3D borderless integrated ultra-clear screen, 3D human-machine co-driving map, full-scene voice control inside and outside the car, millisecond voice response, and offline intelligent voice assistant. The robocar is designed without door handles, indicator levers, or other physical control keys.

The ROBO-01 is installed with butterfly-wing doors and non-marking side windows, illustrating a sleek and dynamic robot-like profile.

The LiDAR on the hood of the car is collapsible to enhance safety and stability for its intelligent driving system. The LiDAR can be collapsed by AI intervention in case of collision. JIDU has obtained a patent for this technology in China.

Moreover, the ROBO-01 is designed with the ability to recognize users’ emotions and interact with the outside world by expressing its own emotions. Its headlights are integrated with interactive AI pixel lights and a voice interaction system, connecting the vehicle with the environment around it. 

Supporting all of its intelligence features is the 4th Generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform – 8295 chip, as the first in the industry. 

According to JIDU, it plans to launch a limited version of its first production model in fall 2022. In addition, JIDU will also unveil the design of its second production model at the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show.
