Honda Motor boasts 19.4% YoY jump in June China sales

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Honda Motor announced today its monthly China sales reached 141,142 units in June 2022, jumping 19.4% from a year earlier.

Notably, the upward movement in June sales came after the Japanese automaker faced three consecutive months of two-digit year-on-year sales drop in the world's largest auto market.

As for the sales of the two joint ventures, GAC Honda saw its June sales jump 22.8% over a year ago to 70,774 units, while Dongfeng Honda scored a 16.3% blooming year-on-year increase by selling 70,368 vehicles last month.

For the first six months of 2022, Honda Motor sold 679,227 vehicles across China, representing a 13.6% year-on-year decrease due to the impact of the coronavirus resurgence and the supply constraints of auto parts. 

The year-to-date sales of vehicles armed with the hybrid powertrain system “Sport Hybrid” added up to 100,022 units, sliding 14.4% compared to the same span of 2021.

With 351,203 vehicles sold in total, GAC Honda posted a 3.7% year-on-year decline in its Jan.-Jun. sales. Meanwhile, a two-digit dip of 22.3% confronted Dongfeng Honda's year-to-date sales, which stood at 328,024 units.

As for the launch of new products, the e:NP1, the first production model under GAC Honda’s all-electric vehicle brand e:NP, officially hit the market on June 20. Coming with four trim levels, the new model is priced between 175,000 yuan ($26,160) and 218,000 yuan ($32,580) after subsidies.

On the same day, Honda Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda Motor in China, announced that GAC Honda had begun construction of its new EV plant in Guangzhou. The plant is expected to begin operation in 2024 with an annual production capacity of 120,000 units.
