Tesla sells 78,906 China-made vehicles in June 2022

Beijing (Gasgoo)- In the sixth month of 2022, Tesla sold 78,906 China-made vehicles in wholesale, more than doubling from the previous month, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

With 52,557 vehicles sold, the Model Y was crowned the best-selling passenger vehicle in the country in June, followed by the Wuling Hongguang MINI EV, with 46,249 vehicles sold. In the past month, the US electric vehicle maker saw 968 vehicles Shanghai-made vehicles ship overseas, greatly slashed month over month.

In the first half of this year, the cumulative wholesale volume of locally-made Tesla vehicles summed up to 294,757 vehicles, 97,182 units of which were exported to overseas markets.

Judging from the overall monthly retail volume of new energy vehicles in China, Tesla secured 14.6% of the market in June, climbing up 2.4 percentage points year over year. At the same time, China’s locally-owned brands accounted for 61.1% of the entire new energy vehicle market, increasing by 1.5 percentage points from a year ago. The market share of new energy vehicle startups amounted to 16.7% in the past month, dropping 1.7 percentage points compared to the earlier year. 

Overall, China’s new energy passenger vehicle wholesale volume reached a historic high in June, with BYD, Chery Holding, and GAC Group leading the way.

In June, China’s new energy passenger vehicle wholesale volume zoomed up 35.3% from May and soared 141.4% year on year to 571,000 vehicles, maintaining its growth momentum despite the tax cut on traditional vehicles in the country. From January to June, there were a total of 2.467 million new energy passenger vehicles sold via wholesale, more than doubled from a year ago by 122.9%.
