Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory said to complete retrofit project on Aug. 7th
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory retrofit project will be completed on August 7th, a local media outlet reported.
The retrofit project, which started in July, has already completed the reformation work of the second-phase production lines dedicated to the Model Y on July 16th. The remolding work of the first-phase production lines, which manufacture the Model 3, kicked off on July 17th and can be expected to be completed on August 7th.
Multiple sources close to the matter confirmed to the media outlet that workers on the second-phase production lines had already returned to work, while the first-phase production line workers were put on leave since July 17th and will come back to work on August 8th.
Upon completion, the daily production volume of the first-phase production lines might reach 500 to 600 vehicles under a single shift.
Currently, Tesla is adopting a three-shift manufacturing schedule, rolling off 1,000 to 1,200 Model 3s daily. The modified Model Y lines are able to produce 2,000 vehicles daily after a week-long recovery. The daily average output of the Model Y production lines will reach 2,200 vehicles next month. In comparison, the daily average output volume of Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory stood at 2,500 vehicles before the retrofit project.
