TE Connectivity's Kunshan factory starts operation
Beijing (Gasgoo)- On October 20, TE Connectivity's China Automotive Business (TE Automotive) announced that the first phase of its Kunshan factory officially started operation and construction of the second phase kicked off at the same time.

The Kunshan plant is TE Automotive’s another important layout in the Chinese auto market after its other three major plants in Suzhou city. According to the company, the second phase of the Kunshan plant expects operation to start in 2024.
The Kunshan plant takes up a floor area of 25,500 square meters with a total investment of 132 million yuan. Specifically, the investment of the first phase was 40 million yuan, and the second phase is about 92 million yuan. The plant mainly produces terminals and connectors, the connectors for HEVs and BEVs, with a total planned annual production capacity of about 3.3 billion connectors, 2 billion pieces of which are planned for the first phase and 1.3 billion pieces for the second phase.
Up to now, TE Automotive have four operational factories in China, with a total production area of about 110,000 square meters. In addition to the Kunshan plant, TE's planned sixth plant will focus on high-growth projects such as in-car entertainment systems and high-speed data connection, and is expected to start operation in 2025.
In order better serve local customers in China, TE Automotive will also establish a new engineering R&D center in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province at the end of October 2022. The center will house a team of more than 1,000 local engineers, bringing up the company’s localization rate of new energy products to as high as 90%, and 95% for vehicle communications products.
