The milestone made GAC Toyota the first Sino-Japanese joint venture to achieve such goal.
Notably, on December 20, the second phase of GAC Toyota’s new energy vehicle production capacity expansion project started operation in Nansha District, Guangzhou. Phase two of the project takes up an area of 740,000 square meters and features a designed production capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year. After the new production line was put into operation, GAC Toyota officially held the production capability of one million vehicles annually
Aside from production capacity expansion, GAC Toyota is also doing well in its Chinese market sales. In the first eleven months of the year, the joint venture’s cumulative sales volume came in at 930,808 vehicles, jumping 27.6% year over year.
GAC Toyota's sales are mainly contributed by its electric models, three flagship models, and its SUV family. It is worth noting that GAC Toyota's first medium-sized pure-electric SUV, the bZ4X, officially hit the market in October this year, ushering in a new era for the automaker in the new energy vehicle market. The launch of the bZ4X boosted GAC Toyota’s electrified vehicle sales to 23,438 units in October.
