China’s new energy vehicle registrations soar 81.48% YoY in 2022: MPS
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China's motor vehicle parc amounted to roughly 417 million units by the end of Dec. 2022, 319 million of which were automobiles, according to China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS).
The automobile registrations in China reached 23.23 million units in 2022, resulting in an annual motor vehicle registration volume of 34.78 million units.
As of Dec. 2022, there have been 13.1 million new energy vehicles (NEVs) running on roads across China, 79.78% of which are battery-electric vehicles (10.45 million units).
The NEV segment saw its full-year registrations surge 81.48% from the previous year to 5.35 million units in 2022, accounting for 23.05% of the country's total annual automobile registrations. It faces a blooming rising impetus with its annual registrations growing from 1.07 million units in 2018 to more than 5 million units last year.
By the end of Dec. 2022, there were 84 cities in China whose auto parc all surpassed 1 million units, 5 cities more than that of the year-ago period. A total of 21 cities had over 3 million automobiles running on roads, respectively. Notably, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Shanghai topped other cities with a car parc exceeding 5 million units. The respective car population of Suzhou, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, and Wuhan all exceeded 4 million units.
The total number of registered motor vehicle drivers in China grew to 502 million people as of Dec. 2022, 92.54% of which were automobile drivers. In 2022, a total of 29.23 million persons received motor vehicle driving licenses.
