Schaeffler’s joint venture with CARS inaugurates new site in Tianjin

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On May 10, Schaeffler-CARS Railway Technology Co., Ltd. ("Schaeffler-CARS"), the joint venture between Schaeffler and China Academy of Railyway Sciences Corporation Limited ("CARS"), held a ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new site in Tianjin city.

Located in the Economic and Technological Development Zone of Wuqing district in Tianjin, the new site consists of office and manufacturing areas, and will work as the joint venture’s headquarters. It will not only engage in some bearing overhaul business, but also undertake the R&D, as well as the production related to new businesses, including such products as the bearing condition monitoring system, trackside condition monitoring system, and intelligent equipment.

In addition, the Tianjin base will actively explore other business directions using existing resources.

In Aug. 2020, Schaeffler signed an agreement with CARS, a comprehensive research institute with multi-disciplines and multi-specialties in China railway industry, to build a joint venture. Then in Feb. 2021, Schaeffler-CARS was officially registered and put into operation.

After more than two years of development, the joint venture has had established bearing maintenance bases with the Shanghai, Xi'an, and Jinan cities’ railway bureaus, and made breakthroughs in the research and marketization of the condition monitoring system.
