Car and City: Wuling Hongguang MINIEV’s monthly registrations fell 37.24% YoY in May 2023

In the fifth month of 2023, there were 18,526 Wuling Hongguang MINIEVs registered across the Chinese mainland, representing a 37.24% year-on-year decrease, but reflecting an 8.47% month-on-month growth, according to the data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute ("GARI").

Regarding the May 2023 registration volume, the Hongguang MINIEV ranked sixth among all China-made new energy vehicle (NEV) models registered on the Chinese mainland, following the Tesla Model Y and four BYD-branded models (Dolphin, Qin PLUS DM-i, Yuan PLUS, and Song PLUS DM-i).

As for the regional distribution for last month, Liuzhou, one of the model's production bases, still registered the most Hongguang MINIEVs. It was immediately followed by Chengdu, whose monthly registrations of the hotter-selling city car model stood at 442 units last month.

Notably, five of the top 10 cities by the May registrations of the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV were from Henan province, but none of the four first-tier metropolises (namely, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen) appeared in the top 10 rankings.

For the first five months of this year, the year-to-date registrations of the Hongguang MINIEV reached 107,170 units, sliding 30.8% from a year earlier. As of May 2023, the model's cumulative registrations added up to 1,023,294 units.

There were three cities with over 2,000 Hongguang MINIEVs registered in the Jan.-May period, namely, Liuzhou, Wuhan, and Shangqiu.
