Car and City: Chongqing registers most AITO vehicles in May 2023

Beijing (Gasgoo)- SERES Auto, the official automaking partner of Chinese ICT giant Huawei, saw its monthly auto registrations reach 5,474 vehicles in May 2023, which jumped 23.9% from a month earlier, according to the data compiled by the Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).

Owning two auto brands, namely, SERES and AITO, SERES Auto is affiliated to SERES Group, which was formerly known as Chongqing Sokon Industry Group. The two auto brands both have Huawei as their partner.  

In terms of registrations of individual models, May 2023, there were three SERES SF5s registered across China, two of which were registered in Shenyang, the provincial capital of Liaoning Province, while the other one was registered in Chongqing. 

As to AITO-branded models, monthly registration volume of the AITO M5 (REEV version) stood at 2,220 in May, surging 37.72% from a month ago. In the past month, there were two cities whose M5 REEV registrations both exceed 100 units, namely, Chongqing (194 vehicles) and Shenzhen (103 vehicles).

Meanwhile, the pure-electric variant of the M5, the M5 EV, saw its monthly registration came in at 1,675 vehicles last month, representing a 23.62% jump from the earlier month. Among all cities in China, Shanghai sustained its leading position on the list regarding the M5 EV registrations, which stood at 210 units, outdoing the runner-up, Hangzhou, by 126 units. Notably, Chongqing was the third highest-ranking city on the list, with 82 M5 EVs registered in the past month.

In addition, May registrations of AITO’s premium model, the M7, summed up to 1,576 units, 449 units, climbing up 8.76% from the previous month. With 101 M7s registered, Chongqing maintained its champion position regarding M7 registrations in China, and was the only city with over 100 M7s registered. Shenzhen and Chengdu came after Chongqing at the second and third place with 59 and 57 M7s registered in May. 

According to data compiled by the GARI, a total of 5,471 AITO-branded vehicles were registered across China in May 2023. 

Chongqing was the highest-ranking city by the regisrations of AITO vehicles in the past month. Meanwhile, the other usual winner on the list, Shanghai, was the runner-up. However, Shenzhen slipped one place down to the fourth with Suzhou taking over the third place. Notably, all ten cities on the list have over 100 AITO vehicles registered last month.
