Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 31, NIO launched the newest version of its in-car operating system, NIO OS 3.0.0, and started pushing it to users at the same time, said the EV startup.
Meanwhile, NIO released a new naming system for its intelligent operating systems. The NT1 and NT2 platform-based model systems are named “Aspen” and “Banyan” respectively.

Compared to older systems, the NIO OS 3.0.0 features upgrades in the interface deployments, interaction logic, and overall visual effect of console-mounted display, dashboard, and HUD (head-up display), providing more sci-tech sense and elegance for NIO’s cockpits.
The NIO OS 3.0.0 adds a new “group-travel” function, which can be applied in both mobile phone app and in-car device. Using the function, a user can create a travelling group and invite others to join it. When the journey starts, group members can share their real-time locations and talk with each other staying in their cars.
Besides, the fresh operating system features a new App dubbed “Tide”, which is designed to offer users a more comfortable seating room through the cooperation among seats, air-conditioning system, lamps, stereo, and other devices.
To improve driving safety, the NIO OS 3.0.0 introduces the EDA (emergency driver assist) function. When NIO Pilot/ NOP (Navigate-on-Pilot) starts working, the system is able to continuously detect a driver's status through cameras, the steering torque sensor, and other sensors. If the driver did not effectively control the vehicle, the system would warn and refresh him through pop-up windows in the dashboard, warning tone, and even snub braking. If the driver still failed to control the car, the system would actively turn on the emergency flashers and make the car slow to a halt, and call for roadside assistance. The car will be unlocked after it completely stops.
