Pony.ai, Guangzhou PSB to build research center for ICV regulations

Under the cooperation framework, the two parties will research the operation management policies and regulatory standards for autonomous driving vehicles. The research will focus on solving several problems regarding autonomous driving, including road test permits, safe passage range setting, traffic accident liabilities determining, illegal acts and penalty determination.
Meanwhile, the partners will co-build a precise city traffic perception and refined management platform. Building on the traffic information perceived by Pony.ai’s scaled, all-day, normalized autonomous vehicles, city transportation managers can obtain real-time perception data on partial roads, optimizing traffic organization efficiency.
Moreover, the two parties plan to promote the synergized innovation between full-stack autonomous driving and police technologies.
In fact, Pony.ai has been providing terminal perceptual data for Nansha District since March 2021. The company’s self-developed cloud platform is able to analyze complex traffic situations and share them with the “brain” of the city. For example, if Pony.ai’s autonomous vehicles encounter unexpected obstructions or water puddles on the road, the vehicle can send out real-time data to the city for updates.
