Changan Auto eyes mass production of L4 autonomous vehicles by 2025

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Changan Auto plans to realize scale production of L4 autonomous  vehicles by the year 2025, the automaker disclosed on February 28th.

In fact, Changan Auto’s plan is not so farfetched, as its autonomous driving scheme started a decade ago, in 2009.

In 2009, Changan Auto initiated an intelligent connected vehicle project, exploring the field from ADAS to autonomous driving. The project was able to introduce new technologies from time to time.

By the time of 2016, Changan Auto successfully completed a 2,000 km-long autonomous driving road test from Chongqing to Beijing. In August 2018, the automaker’s CS55 model, which was powered by its L3 autonomous driving technology, made its way through Hoh Xil.

In the same year, Changan Auto became the first Chinese company to publicly demonstrate its L4 autonomous driving achievements through commercial use experience.

In April 2020, Changan Auto started its L4 autonomous driving operation project, with RMB1 billion invested. The project has an estimated due date in 2025 and a designed annual production capacity of 500,000 sets of L1 to L4 intelligent driving products, realizing RMB4 billion of production value.

According to Changan Auto, its L4 autonomous products range from automated valet parking to Robotaxis.
