Baidu’s net income amounted to RMB3.9 billion ($612 million). The company’s core R&D expense reached RMB5.13 billion ($810 million) in the Jan.-Mar. period, accounting for over 20% of the company’s core income for six consecutive quarters.
According to Baidu, its autonomous ride-hailing platform, Apollo Go, has accumulated 196,000 orders in the first three months of the year, 11 times more than a year ago. The massive order volume also positioned Baidu as the largest Robotaxi service provider worldwide.
In the automotive intelligence field, Baidu Apollo continued to branch out its ASD solution service to more automakers. After establishing the cooperation with BYD, Baidu also attracted VOYAH, the premium new energy vehicle brand under Dongfeng Motor. Dongfeng Motor intends to adopt Baidu’s Apollo Self Driving (ANP, AVP, HD Map) solution onto one of its most popular models.
Baidu’s intelligent cockpit has secured the company over 70 auto partners across the world. The product has been deployed onto over 1,000 vehicle models, resulting in over 20 million vehicles in volume.
By the end of the first quarter, Baidu’s ACE smart transportation has also been adopted by 41 cities, jumping from the 16 cities from a year ago, obtaining a contract value of over RMB10 million ($1.48 million).
