Continental, Horizon Robotics’ joint venture lands orders from local startup
Beijing (Gasgoo)- Continental Smart Core Technology (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd, the joint venture between Continental and Horizon Robotics, has landed orders from multiple companies for its first cost-competitive multi-functional front-view camera and domain controller with automotive-grade AI chips.
The 8-megapixel camera, developed on the basis of Horizon Robotics’ Journey 5 chips, can support various driving assistance solutions and realize such functions as AEB, FCW, ACC and TJA. The camera is also an applicant for Gasgoo’s Top 100 Players of China's New Automotive Supply Chain.

Combining the joint venture’s 8-megapixel camera, in-house developed fifth-generation millimeter wave radar and corner radar, Continental has developed a multi-sensor fusion system, which has obtained production orders from a local high-profile auto-making startup. The system will be initially applied on the first electric vehicle of the startup in 2024.
Currently, there were two famous local startups which have not launched their first product, namely JIDU, the electric vehicle arm of Baidu, and Xiaomi Auto. JIDU has repeatedly confirmed that it is in 2023 when its first vehicle will start deliveries. Xiaomi once said that its first model will roll off the production line and start mass production in 2024.
On April 23, 2021, Continental signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Horizon Robotics and on September 29, 2021, both parties inked a contract to set up a joint venture. In the first month of this year, the joint venture was officially registered.
