Pony.ai’s will cooperate with Ontime to start mixed operation of Robotaxi, which will integrate general manned vehicles and autonomous vehicles. Users in Nansha District, Guangzhou, will have the chance to hail a Pony.ai Robotaxi via the Ontime mobile App. The mixed operation indicates that the penetration rate of Robotaxis in core cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macau Greater Bay Area will be greatly increased, and the large-scale implementation of autonomous driving technology in urban scenarios will be further accelerated.
In addition to working with leading ride-hailing platforms like Ontime to broaden Pony.ai’s reach into the ride-hailing ecosystem, Pony.ai continues to develop and deploy its own robotaxi app, PonyPilot+. On April 24, the company announced that it has become the first and only autonomous driving company to receive a taxi license in China, with a permit to operate 100 autonomous vehicles as taxis in Nansha District, Guangzhou. In May, Pony.ai started to charge fares in the entire 803 square kilometers of Nansha District with 100 Robotaxis. Notably, Pony.ai explained that the 100-vehicle fleet operates in parallel to the Pony.ai Robotaxi fleet on the Ontime platform.
