Nissan Motor to offer Robotaxi service in Suzhou with help from WeRide

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Major Japanese automaker, Nissan Motor, inaugurated Nissan Mobility Service Co., Ltd. (Nissan Mobility), a firm dedicated to providing ride-sharing service in China, at the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) on November 6.

Headquartered in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, the new mobility company sets out to offer ride-hailing service and fully autonomous driving taxi service (Robotaxi) in China. Nissan Mobility will cooperate with Suzhou High-Speed Rail New Town to support the construction of the local intelligent transportation system. 

Specifically, Nissan Mobility plans to kick off demonstration operation of intelligent connected Robotaxis near Suzhou North Railway Station in 2023. Aside from the railway station, the service, dubbed e23, will cover other major sites in the area, including hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, residential areas, as well as Nissan dealerships. 

Nissan Mobility’s Robotaxi service in Suzhou will be supported by leading autonomous driving and Robotaxi service provider, WeRide. Notably, before Nissan’s own mobility service, in 2019, WeRide launched the first public Robotaxi commercial service in China with vehicles provided by Nissan Motor.

In June 2021, the duo deepened their cooperation in the development of autonomous driving technology in the Chinese market. Meanwhile, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance Fund officially became an investor in a WeRide’s financing round then.
