SAIC Motor to launch Robotaxi service in Shenzhen in December 2022
Beijing (Gasgoo)- SAIC Motor plans to launch Robotaxi pilot service in Shenzhen at the end of December, said Yu Qiankun, technical director of SAIC Motor’s AI LAB (SAIC AI LAB).
According to the executive, SAIC Motor plans to expand its current Robotaxi service in Shanghai’s Lin-gang Area and Anting Town, while carrying out the service in Shenzhen for the first time. In December, SAIC Motor will officially put the second-generation Robotaxis into operation in Shanghai.
Robotaxi service is one of the four major strategic projects of SAIC Motor set up in 2021 to ride with the intelligent transformation tide in the auto industry. The rest three projects are IM Motors, Rising Auto, and L4 intelligent heavy-duty truck.
Based on the automaker’s Marvel R model, SAIC Motor’s Robotaxi is equipped 6 solid-state LiDAR units, 5 panorama cameras (3 front-view, 1 side-looking, and 1 rear-view), 4 circum-viewing cameras, 5 radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars.
SAIC Motor has developed a perception method based on circumferential + ultrasonic ultra-close range, which obtains integrated centimeter-grade results at a close range. Moreover, the processing path is also independent from the front view cameras, circumferential view cameras, and LiDAR.
