WeRide kicks off autonomous driving minibus pilot operation in Shenzhen

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Autonomous driving solution developer WeRide announced on December 15 the company was greenlighted to conduct pilot operation of its mass-produced factory-installed autonomous driving minibuses in Shenzhen.

WeRide said it was the first company in China to conduct such operation in Shenzhen, marking a crucial milestone of the company’s deployment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macau Greater Bay Area.

With the official permission, WeRide is allowed to operate its autonomous driving buses in microcirculation shuttle service within Shenzhen’s Nanshan District and Longhua District. 

Currently, WeRide’s autonomous driving product matrix covers Robotaxi, Robobus, Robovan, and Robosweeper. 

Since January 2022, the company has successively launched Robobuses in Guangzhou, Bo’ao of Hainan, Riyadh of Saudi Arabia, Nanjing, Wuxi, and other cities, providing local residents with self-driving microcirculation bus services for daily commute. 

On October 25, WeRide inked a cooperation framework agreement with Hyundai Motor’s fuel-cell arm, HTWO Guangzhou, and Guangzhou Hengyun Enterprises (Hengyun) to build the world’s first driverless hydrogen-powered vehicle demonstration zone in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

HTWO Guangzhou and WeRide will make use of their respective cutting-edge technologies in the field of hydrogen fuel cells and autonomous driving to build the world's first hydrogen-powered driverless street-cleaning vehicle, and put the vehicle into use in the demonstration area to carry out pilot operation of hydrogen intelligent sanitation service.
