According to local authorities, five self-driving buses will be put into service in the Science City area in the first phase, and WeRide will be responsible for the bus route’s daily operation. The city also plans to expand the autonomous driving bus coverage to more areas depending on the operational status of the first fleet.

The self-driving bus line opened for operation this time uses a dual-motor controller architecture and adopts a fully driverless design without steering wheel and cockpit, with a maximum speed of 40km/h. It fully supports V2X functions and can perform L4 autonomous driving on urban open roads all day long.

In terms of innovation and application of intelligent connected vehicles, Guangzhou has always been at the forefront of the country, promoting the development of China's autonomous driving industry. At the end of 2019, with the support of the local government, WeRide successfully launched the first Robotaxi fleet in a first-tier Chinese city and officially kicked off operation. The Robotaxi fleet runs within the core area of Huangpu District and Guangzhou Development District, which includes 144.65 square kilometers of urban open roads.
