Pony.ai permitted for unmanned autonomous driving road tests in Shenzhen

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Pony.ai, the Chinese autonomous driving solution provider, announced on May 29 that it has been granted the first and only permit for “Intelligent Connected Vehicle Unmanned Testing" at the municipal level in Shenzhen.

This permit allows Pony.ai to officially conduct unmanned autonomous driving tests in the core urban areas of Shenzhen without a safety driver in the driver's seat.

In November 2022, the Transport Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality issued detailed implementation rules for road testing and demonstration applications of intelligent connected vehicles in Shenzhen, which expanded the scope of autonomous driving testing in the city to include highways and city roads. It also allowed for unmanned road testing with no driver in the driver's seat. 

Pony.ai's expansion of autonomous driving testing in Shenzhen further demonstrates the generalization capabilities of its autonomous driving technology and represents an important achievement in Shenzhen's accelerated promotion of innovation and development in intelligent connected vehicles.

Since 2022, Pony.ai has achieved significant breakthroughs in unmanned operations of autonomous driving. It has obtained permits for fully unmanned autonomous driving ride-hailing services and remote passenger-carrying tests in Beijing and Guangzhou, respectively.
