GAC Group’s 5G V-Box development project to adopt ZTE’s auto-grade 5G module first

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. Automotive Engineering Institute (referred as “GAC Institute”) recently announced that its 5G V-Box mass-production development project will be the first to adopt ZTE's automotive-grade 5G module, according to a WeChat public account post by ZTE Corporation, a global leader in telecommunications and information technology.

ZTE will provide GAC Group with China’s first domestically developed automotive-grade 5G R16 ZM9300 module based on its self-developed chip platform. This module will be applied in GAC Institute's in-house developed vehicle communication terminal platform project, with the first vehicle model using the module expected to enter volume production in 2024.

On June 1, both parties jointly held the launch event for the 5G V-Box project.

It is reported that ZTE Corporation established its automotive electronics team on March 3, 2021, responsible for unified business planning and operations in the automotive electronics field. In terms of intelligent connected vehicles, ZTE has already developed end-to-end solutions, including 5G+V2X chip modules, TBOX/OBU in-vehicle terminals, roadside RSU devices, edge computing MEC devices, and V2X cloud-based control platform.

ZTE’s automotive-grade 5G R16 module ZM9300 series is a China-made 5G module product based on its self-developed chip platform. The company said this product has achieved industry-leading performance in bandwidth, latency, reliability, NR-V2X, high computing power, and high-precision positioning, etc. In terms of quality, the module is designed in accordance with the IATF16949:2016 standard, providing the automotive industry with a secure and reliable in-vehicle connected solution. It can be widely applied to in-vehicle connectivity and other internet-connected products such as T-Box, OBU, RSU, and cabin systems.
