Hesai Technology to supply LiDAR for SAIC Motor’s intelligent commercial vehicles

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On July 6, Hesai Technology, the leading Chinese LiDAR manufacturer, announced it was nominated as the designated provider of factory-installed LiDAR systems for multiple vehicle models from SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle sector.

These new models will be equipped with Hesai's automotive-grade, ultra-high-definition long-range LiDAR, the AT128. The nomination marks a further deepening of the strategic collaboration between Hesai Technology, SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle sector, and UTOPILOT, SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle autonomous driving arm. Together, they aim to explore new technologies in intelligent driving and accelerate the deployment of advanced intelligent driving products.

UTOPILOT, SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle intelligent driving innovation company, brings together over a decade of intelligent driving technology expertise and industry advantages, with more than three years of commercial operation experience. 

As early as 2021, Hesai Technology established a strategic partnership with UTOPILOT, introducing high-performance LiDAR systems to the latter’s Level 4 intelligent heavy-duty trucks. The vehicles have realized commercial-ready operation at Shanghai Yangshan Port and successfully transported 100,000 standard containers of cargo throughout last year. The duo will work together to upgrade SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle models with intelligent driving capabilities.

UTOPILOT leverages its full-stack, self-developed intelligent driving technology and industry resources in this cooperation. The company’s self-developed Honghu (Chinese pinyin) intelligent driving platform possesses redundant sensor perception capabilities and a rich library of decision-making and planning algorithms. The platform has already been deployed in SAIC Motor's commercial vehicles. With UTOPILOT’s experienced team and diverse pool of technical talents, the company has achieved comprehensive testing and tuning of the vehicle algorithm platform. 

Additionally, this collaboration marks the first application of Hesai Technology's AT128 LiDAR in SAIC Motor's commercial vehicle sector, providing critical perception data for the intelligent driving systems of multiple vehicle models.
