WeRide eyes global business expansion to Southeast Asia, Europe, South America

Beijing (Gasgoo)- WeRide's Founder and CEO, Han Xu, revealed in an interview the company's plans following the acquisition of an autonomous driving license in Singapore. The company is considering entering key markets in Southeast Asia, Europe, and South America.

WeRide on December 11 announced it has received the written notification from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore that allowed the company obtain the Milestone 1 unmanned vehicle public road testing license (M1 license) and the T1 assessment self-driving vehicle public pathway testing license (T1 license). 

With these licenses, WeRide’s autonomous minibuses (Robobus) are allowed to expand testing in prominent regions like the One-North Technology Park and the National University of Singapore.

WeRide stands among a handful of tech companies globally with autonomous driving licenses in China, the US, UAE, and now Singapore.

The recent approval in Singapore marks a new phase in WeRide's commercial autonomous driving service endeavors. Notably, the approval for fully unmanned Robotaxi services in Beijing earlier this November propelled the company’s commercialization process in the Chinese capital.

This move in Singapore signifies a pivotal point for WeRide's commercialization strategy. Their future plans include assessing potential markets in Europe, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, and Brazil.
