Pony.ai, GemVaxLink to build joint venture in South Korea for autonomous driving development

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai, recently held a signing ceremony with South Korean technology company GemVaxLink in Seoul, announcing the establishment of a joint venture.

By deeply integrating resources and technical strengths, the collaboration aims to develop advanced autonomous driving technologies and services for the South Korean market. This partnership signifies Pony.ai's technical expansion into the East Asian region, marking another milestone in its global autonomous driving deployment strategy.

The joint venture is scheduled to be established in Seoul later this year. Pony.ai and GemVaxLink will collaborate on autonomous driving technology and application development. Initially, both parties plan to deploy an autonomous driving service vehicle fleet in Seoul to provide safe and comfortable ride-hailing services to the public. They will further explore the localization and expansion of more autonomous driving products in South Korea.

Since 2016, Pony.ai has been advancing autonomous driving R&D and fleet operations in China, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and South Korea. Leveraging GemVaxLink's years of expertise in local automotive connectivity and software platform development, the partnership aims to explore the commercialization of autonomous driving technology in the South Korean market.

While most vehicles currently sold in South Korea feature L1-L2 advanced driver assistance systems, the widespread adoption of L4 autonomous driving applications is yet to be achieved. However, South Korea's mature urban infrastructure and market environment provide a fertile ground for the development of autonomous driving technology, said Pony.ai.
