XPENG achieves 100% HD map-free intelligent driving in urban areas

Beijing (Gasgoo)- On May 14, XPENG announced that its XNGP urban intelligent driving system has achieved 100% HD map-free operation, significantly expanding its usable coverage.

The available usable distance has increased to 2.23 times in Shanghai, 2.15 times in Guangzhou, 2.18 times in Shenzhen, and 1.31 times in Foshan cities. These cities now support HD map-free intelligent driving capabilities.

Additionally, XPENG has extended its XNGP urban intelligent driving coverage by over 30,000 kilometers in Shandong Province and more than 11,000 kilometers in Jiangxi Province.

The XNGP system can cover various complex and cross-scenario routes in major cities, especially on key roads frequently used by local XPENG owners. In smaller cities and counties, XPENG prioritizes opening core routes commonly used by users to ensure a relatively continuous and complete driving experience. There are also specialized functions for lower-tier roads.

The XNGP system utilizes "navigation maps + XNet perception + driving strategies" to deliver performance in map-free areas that closely matches that of areas with HD maps. At its recent intelligent driving spring launch event, XPENG set new goals to achieve full coverage of XNGP functions in major urban road networks across China by the end of 2024, and to begin development of highway NGP in 2025. Moreover, the carmaker will also start developing globally-oriented XNGP functionalities in 2025.

As of April 24, 2024, the monthly active users of XPENG’s urban XNGP functions accounted for 82% of its total user base. The XNGP system is now fully operational in 260 cities nationwide, with its coverage continuously expanding. In April, XPENG also successfully completed highway NGP testing in Germany.
